Okay, I have been offered a what I think is a PM Kirsten ( I don't see a body tag)for a total of $38 includes shipping....She has pretty bad frizz and a wounded foot. The foot doesn't look to awfully bad and could be covered with socks/shoes. I have never done a downy dunk but I am willing to try. This would be our first Kirsten. She just looks so sad....I feel so sorry for her I think she could be pretty agian?? Should I get her?? Thanks

You sound like you already have your mind made up.
If you feel compassion for this doll, then I would bring her home. It sounds like she needs someone to love her. In the future, you may want to send her to the AG hospital or maybe you could get her a wheelchair or the set of crutches with the sweet little ice pack. What a beautiful lesson to us all; that we don't need to be perfect to be loved, we just need to be. [img]graemlins/heart.gif[/img]

Aw....Thank you. You are so right. My daughters would love her no matter what. When I showed Liz her pic , she was so upset that someone would not take care of their doll. We never have really thought about a Kirsten before....But she just looks so un-loved. My DD's kit has a couple of bite marks on her hand from when our dog was a puppy.....but she loves her just the same and would never think about sending her in. And really it's just apart of her childhood with her puppy. Something she will look at years later and remeber oreo(our dog). And also nothing stays new for ever! Including ME LOL I think I should get her too. Thanks!

Congratulations on your new girl. She does look a bit like Pippi. In that case, she needs colorful clothes that don't necessarily match. LOL

If you want to dress her in prairie style, then KIrsten's Summer dress and her Birthday dress are both beautiful. Actually, I like all of her clothes.
I hope you find something nice for her to wear.

Lynn,
I saw that auction yesterday. I was thinking the foot was not a big deal, because she'll probably wear shoes most of the time. The hair looks restorable to me. I've seen some pretty nasty Kirstens come out looking great. Here are the results of my Kirsten restoration. She was actually in decent shape; her hair has never been out of the original braids, but they were super, super dry.

Let us know how it all turns out, and be sure to get before and after pictures!

Thanks everyone! And also thank you Heather for the link. Your Kirsten turned out beautiful! I have never done this before. And I will need to find a plastic steamer....Ihope that I can do a good job. Is it very hard to do? And how far away do you hold the steamer? Or do you put it right on the hair? I will definatly take before and after pitcure's. And post them if I can ever figure out how??? LoL

I don't use a steamer. I use a flat iron (1.25" wide, Walmart, Conair brand, $13) on a very low setting. It works way better-- at least for me. I just couldn't get the hang of holding the doll, the brush and the steamer all at once. I'd put the doll between my knees, she'd be flopping all over the place, and then I'd steam my hand. It was a mess. A flat iron works well because it steams and smooths at the same time. I keep a spray bottle handy, as well as conditioning (detangle) spray, so the hair stays nice and moist.
A word of advice on the bangs. Steaming can make them poker straight and really goofy looking. I didn't take pictures of Kirsten like this. Her bangs look they way they do because I used a curling iron on a low setting, again with the bangs wet. If you're cautious & careful to keep the iron moving and the hair moist, I've found a flat iron works wonderfully!
I can't wait to see how your Kirsten works out. You really got a great deal on her!
Heather

Edited: for spelling
And to ask, where do you live? Laura, April & I are meeting tomorrow for lunch and to see Angie at the doll show in Livonia. If you're anywhere near and want to meet up with us, PM me.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">ROFL! That's EXACTLY how I got a Kirsten! I had never even considered her but when I saw one go really cheap I couldn't help rescuing her. I only bid $30 not expecting to win, but I did.

I made my Kirsten a modern girl since I didn't have any Kirsten clothes. I have one homemade pioneer outfit and that's it. Kirsten looks great in Today clothes!
